Bollywood actor faces rape charge

A court in Mumbai has remanded Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja in custody for allegedly raping his maid.

Ahuja has been charged with rape, criminal intimidation and wrongful confinement. His spokesman said he was innocent until proven guilty.

Ahuja is an up-and-coming actor who has made an impression in Bollywood's independent cinema scene.

He has acted in films such as Life in a Metro and Gangster, and worked with a number of leading directors.

Ahuja's lawyer, Shrikant Shivade, said his client had been remanded to police custody for three days.

Mr Shivade said: "Media reports about his admission are false and he has not admitted to anything in police custody or in court."
