Human toll of Sri Lankan conflict rises

A leaked United Nations document says almost 6,500 Tamil civilians have been killed in north-eastern Sri Lanka in the last three months.

The UN wants a pause in hostilities so aid can be sent in and people moved to safety.

The BBC's Charles Haviland is with Sri Lankan forces in Puthukkudiyiruppu, near the front line.
