If I were prime minister: Lata Katkar

India will be holding elections over the course of one month from 16 April.

BBC News asked people from all corners of the world's largest democracy what they would do if they were prime minister.

LATA KATKAR, 37, HANDICRAFTS ARTIST, MUMBAI

Lata Katkar
I feel there should be better facilities for artists. I have seen that many talented people lag behind due to lack of funds. I have had to support my love for painting, embossing by keeping another job.

I find that there is no support for an artist. There should be ways of identifying talent and then helping them set up a workshop or a manufacturing unit on their own.

Artists should be able to survive on their skill and talent and not have to depend on other source of income. Even buying raw material is not easy and for a long time you cannot even charge for your work of art for a long time!

I have managed to keep this going with a job, bringing up two children and looking after my family. After seeing so many like me in my training classes I feel there should be a policy for helping talented people.
