Sri Lanka's military says it is continuing an operation to capture the remaining land under the control of the Tamil Tiger rebels in the north-east of the country.

The military says it has trapped the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in an area less than 45 square kms (17 square miles) in size, despite fierce fighting by the rebels who are launching counter-attacks.
