India bus accident leaves 13 dead

Road accidents are common in India and claim hundreds of lives every year

Thirteen schoolchildren and a teacher have been killed when a vehicle carrying them collided with a truck in western India, the police said.

The children and the teacher were returning home from school when the incident happened in Gudhamalani district in Rajasthan state.

Twenty-six other children who were travelling in the vehicle have been injured, police said.

Road accidents are common in India and claim hundreds of lives each year.

Most are blamed on reckless driving, old vehicles and poorly maintained roads.

The police said the children travelling in the vehicle were below 15 years of age.
