New snags for Jinnah film
The sons of Pakistan's first prime minister, Liaquat Ali Khan, have gone to court to try to prevent the screening of the English version of the film on the nation's founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah. The film is due for its first public release in the world in Pakistan in English and in Urdu - although it has been shown at a number of film festivals. Mr Liaquat Ali Khan's sons, Ashraf and Akbar, argue that the English version depicts their father in a derogatory way. In one scene, they said in a BBC interview, he is treated like a servant by Mr Jinnah. They are happy with the Urdu version though. The court in Karachi reserved its judgment until today. The producers have already been criticised for casting Christopher Lee -- who's best known for his roles in horror films -- as Mr Jinnah. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
