EU observers for Bangladesh vote

The European Commission says it will send 150 observers to monitor parliamentary elections due to be held in Bangladesh next month.

It said observers were being sent because the military-backed interim government had created an environment for free and credible elections.

The move came after former PM Khaleda Zia said her party would boycott the polls if emergency rule was not lifted.

The elections are scheduled to be held on 18 December.
