Bollywood film stopped over fears

The film deals with migrant workers

The authorities in the western Indian state of Maharashtra have blocked the release of a Bollywood film, saying it could create law and order problems.

Deshdrohi (Traitor) deals with migrant workers and the violence they face.

There have been recent attacks on north Indian migrants in Maharashtra's capital Mumbai (Bombay) and elsewhere.

At least five people have been killed in the attacks, which have been blamed on the right-wing Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party.

The leader of the party, Raj Thackeray, was arrested last month and is on police bail facing charges of inciting violence against migrant workers.

Senior Mumbai police official Vijay Jadhav said the release of the film had been stopped for two months.

"The government has the power to stop the release of any film if it feels that it could trigger violence," he said.

The film's producer, Kamal Khan, said that he would not be releasing the film in the state as he had reports of its posters being torn down outside theatres.

The film stars actors such as Gracy Singh, Hrishita Bhatt and Nirmal Pandey.

The MNS has been accused of several attacks on migrant workers in recent months.

The unrest in Maharashtra has forced many migrants to leave their neighbourhoods. Mr Thackeray has consistently denied inciting it.
