Bomb attack on train in Pakistan

Train in Pakistan
Trains are a popular form of transport in Pakistan

A bomb attack on a train in Pakistan has killed at least three people, officials say.

Fifteen others have been wounded in the explosion which occurred near the city of Bahawalpur, in Punjab province.

The bomb, which was kept on the railway track, blew up and derailed the passenger train, they said. Many of the wounded have been taken to hospital.

Rescue efforts are still going on to recover the dead and injured from the mangled wreck.

Pakistan has seen a surge in militant attacks in recent days.

But, correspondents say, Punjab is relatively peaceful and such an attack has not taken place in the province for a long time.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
