Pakistan is to elect a new president to replace General Pervez Musharraf. He was forced to resign more than two weeks ago and was regarded as a key ally in the war on terror.

Questions are now being asked as to whether the man expected to succeed him, Asif Ali Zardari, the widower of Benazir Bhutto, can play the same role.

Damian Grammaticas reports from Pakistan.
