Briton opposes Indian rapist bail

An Indian guesthouse owner who raped a British woman has been freed on bail three months after being sentenced to life imprisonment.

The woman, who cannot be named but is from London and in her late 30s, is launching a campaign to have him sent back to jail.

"If I have to get on a plane and go back [to India] I will," she said.

She was raped by 32-year-old Parbat Singh at the guesthouse in Udaipur, northern India, last December.

Singh was sentenced to a total of 21 years for rape and forced entry after a trial in April.

He was also fined 25,000 rupees ($625; £312).

The Briton said last week she had been sent a text message by one of Singh's friends, saying he would be released the folllowing day.

She described news of his release from prison as "a shock".

She said she had contacted the public prosecutor in Jodphur and would apply to have Singh's bail revoked.
