Train crash at Bangladesh station

map

At least eight people have been killed and others injured in a train crash in eastern Bangladesh, officials say.

A railway spokesman said that an express rammed into the rear of another train as it stood in a station.

The collision occurred at Ashuganj station in Brahmanbaria district about 100km (60 miles) east of Dhaka.

Accidents such as this one are comparatively common in Bangladesh. Correspondents say they are sometimes blamed on poor signalling systems.
