'Car bomb' detonated in Kandahar

Kandahar has been hit by several suicide bombings over the last year
A remote-controlled car bomb has gone off in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar and killed at least one person, police say.

They say that they were targeted in the blast, which also injured three people.

The blast is the third attack in Kandahar province in as many days. On Monday a blast in Spin Boldak town killed at least 35 people.

A bomber in Kandahar city on Sunday killed more than 100 people - the country's bloodiest attack since 2001.

Nato troops in Afghanistan have been battling a resurgent Taleban militia in the province.

'Heartbreak'

Presidential spokesman Homayun Hamidzada said there was a pattern to the attacks, and the perpetrators were becoming "desperate and increasingly attacking soft targets".

"It shows the weakness of the enemies of Afghanistan that they resort to inhuman, purely terroristic measures to show their real face," he said.

The Kandahar office of the country's main human rights group, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, has meanwhile called for an end to attacks on civilians.

"The regional human rights office calls on both parties involved in conflict to respect the human rights of the residents," it said in a statement.
