Kashmir 'murder cover-up' charges
Police in Indian-administered Kashmir have charged five army personnel and five police officials with murdering a civilian and trying to cover it up.

The victim, Maulvi Showkat, was kidnapped last October. It is alleged he was then killed in a faked gun battle accused of being a militant.

He was buried under the name of a Pakistani militant, Abu Zahid, about 50km north of state capital Srinagar.

Mr Showkat's body was exhumed in February after protests by relatives.

The charges filed in a court in Srinagar are part of an investigation into a series of alleged killings of civilians by security forces.

Human rights groups claim thousands of people have disappeared during the conflict in the disputed region of Kashmir.
