Afghan President Hamid Karzai has become a father at the age of 49.
His wife, Zeenat, gave birth to the couple's first baby - a son, Mirwais - in a Kabul hospital late on Thursday.
"Mirwais is in good health and is of normal weight. The president is very happy," his spokesman, Karim Rahimi, told the AFP news agency.
He said Mr Karzai's wife was also well. The president married her in exile in Pakistan in 1999 when she was working as a doctor with Afghan refugees.
He became Afghanistan's leader after US-led forces ousted the Taleban in 2001 and was elected president in 2005.
