Indian ex-prime minister cremated
Chandra Shekhar
Mr Shekhar was prime minister for seven months
Former Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, who died of cancer on Sunday, has been cremated in Delhi.

He was prime minister in a caretaker government for seven months, before resigning in March 1991.

He was a member of the Congress party for more than 15 years, but left to form the Janata Party in 1977.

Mr Shekhar became prime minister, running the government with a bare majority, when Congress decided to support him to avoid a snap election.

Congress eventually withdrew support over allegations that his government was spying on Congress party leader Rajiv Gandhi.

Mr Shekhar is survived by two sons.
