One of the biggest changes in the way we report news on this website over the past couple of years has been the increase in information we get from you, our readers and viewers.

The stories and images we receive from you make a daily difference to our journalism and the way we report the world.

On a range of stories around the world our users send in their comment and opinion, leads and contacts, pictures and video.

In just the past few weeks we've been sent pictures drawing attention to problems with British soldiers' accommodation, images from around the UK from recent major storms, dramatic pictures of a sinking ship and images of an ice storm which swept parts of the US.

That's why we've decided to launch a mobile phone picture competition in South Asia.

We want to reflect how you, our users across this vast and varied region, see the world around you.

The theme of our competition is "My changing world", which is a broad subject, but the key thing is your perspective, whether it's on your country, your town or village, the people around you or your daily life.

If you're looking for some examples of how pictures can tell a story well, there are plenty to look at in our In Pictures section of the website.

And if you're new to the site then have a look at our South Asia section for latest news from around the region, features, analysis and regular contributions from high-profile guest columnists.

Elsewhere on the site you'll find the latest developments in the worlds of technology, science and nature, a section dedicated to entertainment news and features and an extensive Sport section covering cricket, soccer, tennis, and more.

You can keep up with it all at your PC or on your mobile, and you can also get the latest from us via email, news alerts, headline news feeds or by podcast.

I look forward to seeing all your entries to the photo competition. We'll be publishing the winning pictures in March.
