When Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty set up an e-mail address especially for her fans, she did not expect the thousands of marriage proposals she received.

"The response has been overwhelming. I am very touched and extremely moved by it," she told the BBC News website, "but I want to tell all the people out there that my e-mail address is not a marital portal."
Shilpa Shetty said the e-mail was actually the idea of her public relations agent who suggested it as a novel way of reaching out to her fans.
"I am someone who believes that we are who we are because of our audiences and, although I am not computer savvy at all, I said let's do it," she said.
Within five days of the e-mail address being made public she has received thousands of messages offering marriage proposals and feedback on her acting skills.
"I'm told some of the proposals are really funny but I just haven't had a chance to see them for myself because of my busy work schedule," she said.
The actress is also so busy working that she says she is not getting married anytime soon.
"I really don't know when I will get married and to be honest, I haven't found the perfect man yet."
Apart from the thousands of marriage proposals, the actress said she does try to answer most of the other e-mails. Many e-mails are from young girls wanting fitness and beauty tips.
Shilpa Shetty has had a couple of Bollywood hits such as Dus (Ten), but her most acclaimed performance has been in the film that was inspired by Hollywood hit Philadelphia and in which she played someone with HIV.
