Kashmir soldier kills colleague
Central Reserve Police Force personnel in Srinagar
Stress has been blamed for violence among the security forces
An Indian soldier has shot dead a senior officer in Indian-administered Kashmir, police say.

The soldier, Ravi Kumar, shot Major Harsh Kumar with his service weapon in Rajouri district on Wednesday night.

A senior police official said they were investigating whether the soldier was under stress.

A number of Indian soldiers and policemen deployed in the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir have been killed in similar incidents.

The strain of being deployed amid a bloody separatist uprising has been blamed for much of the violence between the security forces.

Correspondents say acts of soldiers killing their colleagues or seniors happened in the restive state because of "stress due to long hours of duty or denial of leave".

In January, a policemen shot dead four of his colleagues in Srinagar, the state's summer capital.
