India extends ceasefire in Assam
The Indian government has extended by 15 days its suspension of military operations against separatist rebels in the north-eastern state of Assam.

The move came after the government met representatives of the United Liberation Front of Assam, Ulfa.

Officials say hope the move will help peace talks between officials and negotiators acting on behalf of Ulfa.

The rebels had called for military action to be suspended before holding any direct talks with Delhi.
