Traffic accidents are commonplace in India
Police in India say that at least 33 people have been killed in separate road accidents in two states.

Officials in the western state of Gujarat say that 17 people died when a truck carrying passengers came off the road near the city of Ahmedabad.

They say that most of those killed were construction workers, and that seven women were among the dead.

Police in Indian-administered Kashmir say that 16 people died when a bus crashed in the district of Rajouri.

They say that at least 25 people were injured in the crash, which happened in a mountainous area.

Police said the accident happened when a privately-owned bus skidded off the road and down a deep gorge near the Sain Ganji Ziarat area.

Army officials and rescue services are at the scene, and at least two of the injured are in a critical condition.
