India arrests Pakistani fishermen
Indian fishermen at the Wagah border post in May
Hundreds have been freed by both sides since 2004
Six Pakistani fishermen have been arrested by Indian police in the Sir Creek area, off the coast of the Indian state of Gujarat.

The police say the fishermen were carrying any identification and were also carrying sophisticated wireless sets manufactured in China.

They have been taken to a police facility in the town of Bhuj for further questioning.

Sir Creek is a disputed strip of marshland between India and Pakistan.

India and Pakistan routinely detain each other's fishermen for straying into territorial waters.

But officials say the latest arrest was made because the fishermen were allegedly carrying powerful communication equipment.

Hundreds of prisoners, including fishermen and farm workers who inadvertently strayed across the border, have been released by both countries since 2004.

A peace process is under way between the two nuclear neighbours who have taken a number of steps to improve relations.
