India protest over Pakistan dam

India has launched an official protest against a dam Pakistan plans to build in the disputed territory of Kashmir.

The Indian foreign ministry said in a statement the project would result in the flooding of large parts of land India considers to be its territory.

Pakistan rejected the Indian protest, saying the construction of the Bhasha Dam was part of its policy on the management of water resources.

Pakistan and India have sought control over Kashmir since partition in 1948.
