In pictures: BJP heading for victory



First results from India's general election show the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its 24-party coalition on target for a majority, while the Congress party is heading for its third successive defeat.

After two days of preparations, counting started on Wednesday and very quickly a majority for the BJP became apparent.

In Delhi, these BJP supporters came out into the streets to express their joy.
