India plans for 'medical visas'
The Indian government has decided to introduce medical visas to try to boost the emerging "medical tourism" industry which has expanded in recent years.

Many foreigners have been going to India to take advantage of low cost, specialty medical centres.

Presently, they must use tourist visas, which are limited in duration and cannot be extended.

Medical visas would be extendable for the length of the treatment, lasting for up to a year.
