Soldier shot dead in Waziristan
A suspected militant has shot dead a Pakistani soldier in the tribal region of North Waziristan, officials say.

The gunman opened fire on two Frontier Corps members late on Wednesday in the north-western town of Mir Ali. Shots were exchanged before the gunman fled.

Thousands of troops are in the area hunting Taleban and al-Qaeda militants as part of the US-led war on terror.

Officials say the headless corpse of an Afghan refugee was also found in the main town of Miran Shah on Thursday.

The body had a note attached to it accusing the man of being an American spy. It is thought the man was from Khost in eastern Afghanistan.
