Inquiry into alleged train rape
Police in India have launched an investigation into the alleged rape of a 22-year-old woman in a train in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.

Police say a gang of eight to 10 armed men boarded an express train between Sanchi and Vidisha on Wednesday night.

The gang allegedly robbed passengers before attacking the woman.

However, the woman has now denied she had been raped and has refused to undergo medical test to ascertain whether the rape took place.

A series of widely publicised rapes in India in the past few years have led to protests by women's groups who say many victims refuse to report the crime because of discrimination.

A police official told the BBC that the attackers also threw three men out of the moving train when they protested against the assault.
