Bangladesh's population still growing too quickly

An official of the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA says Bangladesh has cut its birth rate almost by half in 25 years.

Shuyun Xu said the cut of three percent to 1.6% was remarkable although it still fell short of the government's target of zero percent.

He attributed the decrease to the growing use of contraception. The United Nations predicts Bangladeshs population of 127 million could double in 50 years.
