Protesters say they will carry on until charges are reduced
Mobile telephone users in Bangladesh have demonstrated in the capital Dhaka to demand that operating companies reduce their call charges.

The protesters say the charges they face are more expensive than other operators in the South Asia region.

The protest - organised by the Citizen Rights Movement - was attended by dozens of mobile subscribers.

All four mobile companies operating in the country say that they are trying to reduce the costs of calls.

The protesters said that the mobile telephone companies charge prepaid subscribers just over 11 US cents a minute, a rate which they say is far higher than in neighbouring India.

They say that they will continue their campaign for lower rates until their demands are met.
