Indian actress given 'truth test'
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar
Madhur Bhandarkar's latest film is called 'Page 3'
Indian police say they have given a truth-drug test to actress Preeti Jain as part of an investigation into a murder plot.

Ms Jain has been accused of paying an assassin to murder the film director Madhur Bhandarkar.

Police say that the test has produced enough information to proceed with the case against the actress.

Ms Jain was taken into police custody last week. Last year she accused Mr Bhandarkar of sexually abusing her.

Narco-analysis

Joint Commissioner for law and order in Mumbai (Bombay) Arup Patnaik told the BBC that as a result of the test, known as a 'narco-analysis test', the police "have received some interesting leads and we will be questioning the actress again."

In a narco-analysis test, a suspect is injected with sodium penthanol, a chemical that numbs powers of perception and supposedly makes it difficult for a person to lie during questioning.
