India Olympic star in cash appeal
Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore
Major Rathore - India's most successful Olympian
The army major who was India's only medal winner in this year's Olympic Games has appealed for sponsors to help him contest the 2008 games in Beijing.

Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won a silver medal in one of the shooting events in the Athens Games.

He told journalists in the northern Indian city of Chandigarh that he needed a substantial amount of money from government and business.

He said the army had agreed he could be endorsed by private companies.

Major Rathore says he needs the sponsorship to finance what he called a highly-expensive training programme.

His silver medal in the Athens was the best performance ever by an Indian in Olympic history.
