Former Miss India 'hangs herself'
Nafisa Joseph was a presenter with the MTV music channel
A former Miss India, Nafisa Joseph, has died after being found hanging at her home in the western city of Bombay (Mumbai).

Police say the 25-year-old actress and television presenter committed suicide.

Ms Joseph, who won the Miss India title in 1997, was found alone in her bedroom in a critical condition on Thursday. She died on the way to hospital.

The presenter left no suicide note, police say. They believe she was stressed and depressed.

"Our preliminary investigations show that she committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her apartment," a senior police official told Reuters news agency.

Ms Joseph had spent Thursday evening with her mother and a couple of friends at her home in India's entertainment and financial capital, police say.

Her mother told television reporters that her daughter ended her life after her wedding planned for August had been called off.

Ms Joseph was a presenter with the MTV music channel in India, hosting popular fashion and music shows.

She also put in a cameo performance in a Bollywood film.
