Jail order for Indian politician
Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav
Mr Yadav was freed on bail by Bihar's high court 10 days ago
India's Supreme Court has ordered the re-imprisonment of controversial politician Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, who is facing murder charges.

Mr Yadav had been in jail in northern Bihar state for the past four years in connection with the killing of ex-legislator, Ajit Sarkar, in 1998.

But he was freed 10 days ago after the state's high court granted him bail.

The Supreme Court on Friday put his bail on hold and ordered him to surrender to the authorities.

The court said Mr Yadav should be immediately returned to jail.

Pappu Yadav, who recently joined Bihar's ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal party, is contesting a parliamentary by-election this month.

He is the RJD candidate for the Madhepura parliamentary seat.
