Several Taleban killed, US says

The United States military in Afghanistan says several suspected Taleban fighters have been killed in a clash near the border with Pakistan.

An American military spokesman said two Afghan government soldiers were injured in the clash, in Khost province.

It took place on Thursday night across the border from the Pakistani tribal agency of North Waziristan.

Elsewhere, several people are reported to have been injured in an explosion in the southern city of Kandahar.

The explosion happened in a crowded part of the city and was believed to have been caused by a bomb planted in a vehicle.
