Norwegians meet Tigers in London
The Norwegian peace envoy to Sri Lanka, Eric Solheim, and the Norwegian ambassador to Colombo have met the chief negotiator for the Tamil Tigers.

The two men met with Anton Balasingham in London.

Mr Solheim said that the talks lasted two hours, and embraced every aspect of the ceasefire agreement between the rebels and the Sri Lankan forces.

He said the recent political killings in Colombo, and renewed violence in eastern Sri Lanka were also discussed.

Mr Solheim said it was important for both parties to respect the ceasefire agreement.

In another development in the eastern part of the island, the ceasefire monitors have been able to organise a meeting between the Sri Lankan army and the Tamil Tigers.

The meeting marks the resumption of such conferences after a long break.
