Lawyers at the High Court in Madras in India have begun an indefinite strike to press for the withdrawal of a new set of rules governing their conduct.
The 25-point code was issued by the court last week, following a series of recent strikes by its lawyers.
The code provides for a one-year ban on lawyers if they boycott the court.
The High Court says a committee will review its new code. But the lawyers have promised to continue their strike until the code is withdrawn completely.
