A senior official from the US Agency for International Development has warned that Sri Lanka's political crisis is jeopardising international support needed to rebuild the country's economy.
The American official, Mark Ward, said widespread, multi-party support was necessary to sustain Sri Lanka's peace process with the Tamil Tiger rebels.
Mr Ward's comments came a day after the Sri Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickramasinghe, accused his main political rival, President Chandrika Kumaratunga, of endangering the peace process by removing 39 government ministers from their post.
President Kumaratunga's spokesman rejected the allegations.
