The former ruling party in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the Bahujan Samaj Party, has asked the High Court to look into allegations that some of its legislators were bribed by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party during a vote of confidence last month.

The Bahujan Samaj Party was forced to resign after thirteen of its legislators voted against it -- paving the way for the rival BJP to take over.

Twelve of the thirteen legislators later joined the government formed by the BJP.

The Bahujan Samaj Party has also demanded the thirteen legislators be stripped of their membership of the assembly for defecting to the BJP.
