Bomb in Sri Lankan capital

A bomb has exploded in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, killing at least one person.

Police said the device had gone off in a house in the fashionable Rosmead Place.

An interior ministry spokesman said the victim was the servant of a gem merchant.

The house is in the same street as the private home of Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga, the French Embassy and several diplomatic residences.
