Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor has married Delhi-based businessman, Sunjay Kapur, in a traditional Sikh ceremony.

The couple were married in the traditional Sikh manner

Film stars, politicians and businessmen attended the wedding, which was held on Monday at the Kapoor's ancestral home near Bombay (Mumbai).

Fans and paparazzi clogged the roads outside the house, having dismissed reports that the couple were planning a low-key wedding.

Karisma Kapoor - feted for her beauty and vivacity - has featured in dozens of Bollywood hits.

Illustrious families

She is currently playing the lead in the television serial, "Karishma - A Miracle of Destiny".

Broadcasts of the serial were stalled when US-based author, Barbara Taylor Bradford, sued it for plagiarising her work.

But the author lost her claim, and the series went ahead.

Karisma Kapoor belongs to a dynasty of Bollywood actors - her grandfather, matinee idol Raj Kapoor, began acting in the black-and-white era.

Her husband, Sunjay Kapur, runs a successful motor parts business and is the grandson of Indian tyre tycoon, Raunaq Singh.

Amongst those present at the wedding were Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Govinda, Akshay Kumar and Sridevi.

Actor Abhishek Bachchan, son of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, did not show up.

His engagement to Karisma Kapoor was called off early this year after only a couple of months.
