Heretic Pakistani jailed for 13 years

An anti-terrorist court in the Pakistani province of Punjab has sentenced a member of the Ahmadiya community to 13 years in prison on charges of heresy.

The man, Ghulam Mustufa, was sentenced to 10 years for religious offences and another three years under the Anti-Terrorist Act.

He is the second man this week to be jailed by the court under Pakistan's blasphemy laws. The Pakistani parliament declared the Ahmadiya community heretical 25 years ago, and the community issued a report last month claiming it was the main target of the blasphemy legislation.

Pakistani human rights groups have been highly critical of the practice of trying alleged religious offences in anti-terrorist courts.
