Saturday, January 30, 1999 Published at 13:15 GMT World: South Asia Top award for Ravi Shankar The Indian government has awarded the country's highest civilian honour, the "Bharat Ratna", to the Indian classical musician, Ravi Shankar and posthumously to the freedom fighter, Gopinath Bordoloi. Ravi Shankar is an internationally acclaimed Sitar player, while Gopinath Bordoloi fought against British rule in India.
