The Indian government has awarded the country's highest civilian honour, the "Bharat Ratna", to the Indian classical musician, Ravi Shankar and posthumously to the freedom fighter, Gopinath Bordoloi.

Ravi Shankar is an internationally acclaimed Sitar player, while Gopinath Bordoloi fought against British rule in India.

Mr Bordoloi later became the chief minister of the north eastern state of Assam.
