In pictures: Buddhist festival
Buddhists have gathered in Bodh Gaya in northern India for their highest ceremony of worship, the Kalchakra (Wheel of Time) festival. They believe Buddha attained spiritual enlightenment there about 2,500 years ago.
More than 100,000 people have gathered for the annual event
The temple at Bodh Gaya is holding ceremonies over nine days
The Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, is leading the worship
Monks performed a purifying dance before festivities began
Those present are having to brave wintry temperatures
