Goa holiday security alert
The chief minister of the western Indian state of Goa, Manohar Parrikar, says his government will make tight security arrangements for the Christmas and New Year period.
Mr Parrikar's comments come days after an unconfirmed report in an Israeli newspaper suggested that Israel had warned India of a possible terrorist strike in Goa over the new year. Thousands of Israelis traditionally gather in Goa on New Year's Day to sing and dance on its idyllic beaches. Mr Parrikar said Israeli authorities have sounded a general worldwide alert, and Goa should not be singled out as a dangerous place for them. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
