Ancient Sikh text found in London
A 17th century manuscript of the Sikh religious text, the Adi Granth, has been discovered in the collections of the British Library.
The manuscript was at first thought to be an ordinary 19th century copy of the work. It has now been confirmed as being one of the oldest copies of the scripture, which was compiled in 1604, and the oldest version outside India. There are up to half-a-million Sikhs in Britain, for whom the finding will be of special significance. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
