Afghanistan remembers attack victims

A ceremony has been held at the American embassy in the Afghan capital, Kabul, to remember those killed in the attacks on New York and Washington last September the Eleventh.

A small part of the wreckage from the New York World Trade Centre was buried in the embassy grounds.

The United States Charge d'Affairs, Brad Hanson, said the events of that day had affected Afghanistan more profoundly than any other country outside the United States.

But they had put in motion political change and a time of hope and reconstruction.

At Bagram air base north of Kabul, a gunman opened fire during a dawn memorial ceremony held by United States troops.

There were reports of rocket attacks on two other US bases at Khost and Gardez, but no one was injured.
