Children killed in Kashmir attack
Police in Indian-administered Kashmir say that suspected Islamic militants have attacked the home of a Muslim government worker and shot dead two of his children.
A third child was injured. The police say that the attack occurred near the village of Surankot, some 200 kilometres north-west of Jammu. The government worker, Mohammed Qayyum, was not at home when the gunmen attacked. Police say they killed his 12-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son. It was the second attack on the family of a government worker in Indian-administered Kashmir in several days. Last Sunday, suspected Islamic militants raided the home of a police officer and killed his father, brother and two other relatives. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
