Bollywood star evades kidnap
Indian police say they have foiled an attempt to kidnap one of India's leading film stars, Manisha Koirala.

Acting on a tip-off, police stopped the gang as they were on their way to her home.

They said the four kidnappers then opened fire, and were fatally wounded in the shooting that followed.

This is not the first time that Koirala has faced threats to her life.

Last year a close associate Ajit Dewani was shot dead.

Police say the threat of extortion is a growing problem for Indian film stars who are being targetted by criminals bent on gaining huge sums of money.
