FIFA reinstates Bangladesh football federation
Football's world governing body, Fifa, has lifted a ban on Bangladesh hosting or taking part in international football events.
This follows the country's sports authorities last week reinstating the elected executive committee of the national football federation. A Fifa spokesman said his organisation would still be following the situation carefully, but had lifted the suspension until new statutes were adopted and new committee elections held if necessary. Fifa officials suspended Bangladesh last month for what they called government interference, after the president of the Bangladesh Football Federation - who was appointed by the new government in Dhaka - dismissed the executive committee without giving any reasons. Fifa said the sacking of the committee members was a violation of FIFA rules. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
