In pictures: Annan in Kabul
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has visited Kabul to see for himself how Afghanistan is recovering from decades of war and injustice.
 Security was tight at Kabul's newly operational airport
 An Afghan guard of honour greeted the distinguished guest
 UN-backed mine-clearing teams also turned out for Mr Annan
 The visit was a chance to meet local leaders as well as UN colleagues...
 ...and to share a joke with a teacher at a newly opened girls' school
